Rancho Tio Emilio is a farm owned by José Gaibor, whose brother, Henry, owns and operates the farms and mill at Finca Maputo and nearby Hakuna Matata northeast to the capital Quito. Henry and his wife, Verena, oversee the daily operations of Rancho Tio Emilio. Together, they are doing everything right when it comes to picking, processing, and drying coffee. At Rancho Tio Emilia, they grow several varieties of coffee, including this lot of SL-28. Most common found in its birthplace of Kenya, SL-28 made its way to Latin America and does very well growing at higher altitudes with a resistance to drought.  The well managed production from Henry and Verena allows the best qualities of the SL-28 to shine in the cup, especially best enjoyed with a filtered pour over.
